6-Week 'Master the Mountain' Course

Coaching

The coaching takes place both at Fernie Alpine Resort and in the surrounding backcountry. This combination allows you to develop your technique on the resort pistes, moguls, powder and tree runs, and then hone your off-piste skills in the untracked snow of the backcountry.

Directed by Jens Mendes, one of Canada's most respected ski pros and instructor examiners, our team of ski coaches are amongst the highest qualified instructors in Canada. Throughout the course they will develop your personal skiing technique in a variety of conditions.

Your Coaching

Each week from Monday to Thursday you will receive five hours of instruction per day. Primarily the coaching will focus on improving your own technique in all conditions: carving on the piste, moguls, tree skiing, racing and in the powder. By the end of the course you'll be able to tackle any challenges the mountain throws at you. On top of this you will receive specific backcountry skiing instruction so that you are comfortable on this type of terrain and the equipment that is required for it.

The best classroom in the world!

The best classroom in the world!

Given the nature and goals of this program; to experience, and hopefully master, Canada’s finest powder and backcountry skiing, we have decided not to include any instructor training in this course. For those that do want to achieve the CSIA level 1 instructor qualification there will be a level 1 course running in Fernie while you are there. (This is an additional cost) This 4 day course includes both training and assessment and is designed for people with no prior knowledge of ski instruction.
