These days there are ski instructor courses operating at dozens of resorts around the world. It's easy to feel overloaded with information with different companies offering conflicting advice. Deciding to do a season is a big step so it's crucial that you not only choose the right course but that you spend it at the best resort for you.
As one of the first instructor course companies we were fortunate to be able to pick the ski resorts that we believed were most suited to hosting a ski instructor course. Other companies, who started after us, have been turned away from each of the resorts we operate at.
About the resorts
We chose four resorts from which to run our ski courses: Fernie, Red Mountain, Banff and Whistler Each location offers something unique but all were chosen because in our opinion (and we've been lucky enough to ski most places) they offer the best snow and best terrain. However we feel strongly that it's more than just powder that makes your season experience - it's also about where you live, how you fit into the local community and what you gain from living in a mountain town.
Fernie, Banff, Red Mountain and Whistler all offer a different experience. There's lighter snow at some resorts; deeper snow at others; steeper terrain at some; better terrain parks at another; more nightclubs in certain towns; more welcoming locals in another. You get the gist...
So which resort should I choose?

Drinking age
One thing to keep in mind for those who are going to be under 19 while in Canada is that the drinking age in British Columbia (BC) is 19, whereas in Alberta it's 18. Over the years we have had many 18 year olds on our BC based courses and everyone has always loved the resort they have chosen. However it can be frustrating if our group is eating in a section of a bar where 18 year olds can not enter. Banff - which is in Alberta - might therefore be more suitable for 18 year olds who have going to bars as their main consideration.
