Banff

Meet The Team

We pride ourselves on employing the best. Nearly all our staff are Canadian or local to Banff and can give you valuable insight; far more than some UK rep who has just arrived. We consistently hear that our staff made the course even better than could be expected.

Residential Staff

Paul Thrasher

Technical Director

A skiing legend

Paul is a Banff local and renowed ski pro, his qualifications are the highest you can achieve in Canada (Level 4) and his knowledge of both Banff and skiing will ensure you have a fantastic time with him. He has been teaching skiing for 15 years now and has a focus on freestyle skiing and coaching on top of that he is the Vice Chairman of the CSIA Alberta Board of Directors!

Emily Park

Programme Director

Emily Park is an utter NONSTOP legend. She took our Banff 11-week course five seasons ago and swiftly turned into the best female rider we've seen. She fell in love with the Banff vibe and returned the following two seasons to teach her skillz to anyone who could keep up.

Em was a fantastic assistant to our old Course Director, Tysen, then two years ago we asked Emily if she'd like to take care of our Banff course and she stepped up to the challenge in a big way. Our Em is super organised and there is nothing she can't do. She'll be your mate, your mum (caring not nagging!), your drinking buddy, your snowboard guru and your muse. Girls want to be her and boys want to be with her.

With Park in her name and Park in her nature, if she's not running around Banff organising your next social event she's most commonly found in the park at Sunshine Village resort throwing down some big moves. She regularly enters freestyle competitions... and wins.

Basically... a Banff legend.

The Instructors

To enable us to offer these unique training programmes utilizing three separate ski resorts we have teamed up with Ski Big 3, Banff's premier winter sports school. Our technical director has extensive experience working on similar programmes and will co-ordinate the coaching across all three resorts.

The NONSTOP Ski Coaches

Michelle Ostafew

Level 3 Ski Instructor

One of the best!

Like many of our ass kicking, clever clogs instructresses Michelle has not only trained as a pro but also has a degree in English. During lessons she has battled against sun, snow, rain, 100 km/h winds, ice storms, -30 conditions, creeks, mud puddles, unexpected cliffs, legions of four year olds, NCT groups (No chance of turning) and 12 six-year olds who only spoke Swiss-German! Not High German... Swiss-German! So what does she do in the summer to relax? Rappels out of helicopters to fight forest fires of course!

Anna Steckle

Level 3 Ski Instructor

Always one of the favourites

When you’re dad’s a ski school manager a love of skiing is inevitable but 20 years ago when Anna took her level 1 she only planned to teach for a season. Now a CSIA level 3 and with 12 years of instructing and training staff at Canada Olympic Park it’s become more then a hobby and even with all that experience she insists NONSTOP is the best programme she’s worked on – hooray! Off snow she’s also a full-time mum so if you don’t want to be heckled by the Steckle turn up on time and no lame excuses – she’s heard it all before!

Mike Hecek

Level 3 Ski Instructor

Essex boy turned ski legend

I started skiing when I was 13 in Austria. I'm now 24. Since then I have been on many winter vacations to Europe, I then decided to spend a winter in the 3 valleys. After the winter I then found NONSTOP and headed to Banff the following winter (2005).

Since then I have been working for Ski Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine. I worked on the 3 day club ski program and also teach for the Fairmont snow school. I started working with Nonstop full time last winter on the 3 week program and the 11 week program. When I'm not working I love to Freeride. My passion is for the steep and deep. I love to ride the Dive and the backside chutes at the lake. On a day typical day off you'll see me ripping on Standish from the first lift to warm up then off to the dive. I love the pow. I love skiing and I love to teach, since completing nonstop i have enjoyed skiing even more every season. I also spend some summers in Banff working and playing golf at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course. I am also into downhill biking, a nice way to stay on the hills in the summer.

Mark Wilcox

Level 3 Ski Instructor
