THE HOME OF SUMMER SNOW
New for 2008 is our 10-week ski instructor course in New Zealand. This ski instructor course has the benefit of enabling you to train as a ski instructor and then work in the Northern Hemisphere the following winter. This ski instructor course is ideal for anyone looking to get away early on their Gap Year; who is on a university holiday or who wants a career break. There is the option to extend this trip to 14 weeks and take your Level 2 qualification
Our New Zealand 10-week ski instructor course offers more than just ski coaching:
Additional training in mountain skills such as avalanche awareness and rescue techniques
A fast track into the ski industry with the NONSTOP reputation enhancing post-course employment prospects
Weekly social events and trips to other resorts and the city of Christchurch
Access to 11 ski areas, more than any other ski instructor company in New Zealand
Option to extend course to 14 weeks and take NZSIA Level 2
2,300 vertical feet of skiing.
Annual snowfall: 15 feet.
Season: Late June to early October.
The South Island of New Zealand offers some of the best skiing in the Southern Hemisphere; our ski instructor course is run in the Craigieburn range in the Canterbury region and is no exception to this rule. From your base in the town of Springfield you will have access to 11 ski areas, more than any instructor training company in New Zealand.
Porters is the closest ski field and is where you will do most of your training. It is known for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere, offering something for everyone, with cruising runs ideal for instructor training drills and steeper terrain like the mighty Big Mama and Bluff Face, which are the longest and steepest off-piste runs on a commercial ski area in the Southern Hemisphere, ideal for advanced skiers.
For those looking to work on their freestyle skiing Porters also has a newly constructed terrain park, the Community Park. The terrain park is made up of the mini park and the upper park. Both offer riders the chance to hit up to 10 features in a single run comprising of jibs, small jumps, medium jumps, rails and boxes.
You will have access to 11 ski areas during your course; the club fields are the most well known:
Broken River
Mt. Olympus
Mt. Cheeseman
Craigieburn
These regions offer an off piste paradise with some of the Southern Hemispheres best free skiing through untracked steep powder. They provide a unique experience with panoramic views free from development allowing you to enjoy steep chutes, drop offs, powder bowls and no grooming. Added to this the slopes are practically empty resulting in fresh lines all day long on a powder day.
One thing that never changes between any of the resorts is the warm, local hospitality, and great skiing available.
This is a 10-week course designed to really improve your skiing and also train you to pass the NZSIA Level 1. There is an option to stay out for an extra four weeks and take your NZSIA Level 2; for more details on this option please contact the office as numbers are very limited on it.
We’ve teamed up with Jason Collins who has been running instructor training courses in New Zealand for eight years and has unparalleled experience of the local ski areas. Designed for intermediate to advanced skiers, the coaching concentrates on your personal technique in a variety of conditions, as well as the skills required to pass the instructor exam.
With Jason we provide five hours of professional coaching five days a week concentrating on both freeride and instructor techniques. You will develop your technical knowledge, communication and teaching skills, and detection and correction methods. Our groups are small and personal with between six and eight people; guaranteeing individual attention.
The coaching will include regular video analysis and improve your skiing on the piste, through moguls and crud, and in powder. The varied terrain results in a rapid rate of progression and by the time you leave the programme you’ll be skiing terrain you would previously only have dreamt of!
You’ll also benefit from additional training such as:
1-to-1 coaching sessions
Technical sessions
Ski school work experience
