Adam’s Apples #7 Take a bite of snowboarding knowledge

Hey, my name is  Adam Bowcutt and I am a snowboarder.  Welcome to this week’s tasty round-up of snowboarding blog posts, articles and forum topics from around the world.

Apologies that #7 is slightly late.  I was in hospital last night as a result of over-cooking a spin and catching a massive toe edge to face plant.  I was sedated by a friendly Canadian Doctor and my fractured nose was re-set.  I’m told it is straighter than it was before the blow!

Anyway, here is #7

Snowsports GB goes Bust

The governing body for UK snowsports has gone bankrupt. Snowsports GB has tried to promote the interests of British winter sports athletes since 1964. Sadly, due to financial troubles going downhill, it has been forced into the hands of the administrators.  UK Olympians such as halfpipe snowboarder Ben Kilner will thankfully still compete in Vancouver albeit with limited resources.  Luckily he has the backing of some solid sponsors for much need financial help;  Thirty Two Snowboard Boots, LG, Red Bull Energy Drinks, Bawbags Underwear, Nixon Watches, Nike 6.0 Footwear, K2 Snowboards, Grenade Gloves, Granite Reef, Von Zipper Eyewear, British Airways.

It is interesting that although Snowsports GB charged their athletes fees to be involved in the GB team it’s these very athletes that will be claiming a double financial loss, and not a double cork (watch this space!).

The British Snowboard Association is relaunched

After the downfall of Snowsports GB there is still hope for the future of British Snowboarding.  The British Snowboard Association has jumped onto the scene. According to their new responsibilities:

“the BSA will ensure that snowboarding is represented at the highest possible level.”

This will hopefully be a great thing for the development of British Snowboarding.  Of course a nice pot of English tea will be poured first before the battle of  Britain begins!

UK rider Ben Kilner gaining momentum for Olympics

In spite of all the off snow shenanigans  it’s great to see that UK Olympic hopeful Ben Kilner is fully focused on his riding. Kilner gained an impressive 3rd place podium at the last World Cup halfpipe event before the Olympics.  This was his career best and will surely give him some solid confidence going into the Winter Games in Vancouver later this month.  We wish him all the very best of luck.  Go win it for Britain Ben!

Follow Kilner’s competion journey

Ben Kilner is killing it!  He simply keeps getting better with each competition he enters.  The dedication and determination he showcases only serves as optimism for him to do Britain proud in Vancouver 2010.  Many professional athletes like to keep their fans and sponsors informed on their progress.  The UK’s representative Ben Kilkner is no different.  Perhaps show your support and follow his progress via his website updates.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or recreational snowboarder it’s important to remember that there are many reasons why people ride.  Try to respect everybody whatever level they are at. This way snowboarding will develop in a good way for the distant future.
