Fernie 11-Week Ski and Snowboard Instructor Course ‘09 – Week 1 & 2
WEEK 1 & 2
Have a read of what the 11 week course in Fernie have been up to during their pre-stay & Week 1. This installment is written by Adam “Wi-Fi” Broons

After departing the wonderful Land of Oz, I felt a bit dazed by the fact that I was on my way to the other side of the world, a 70 degree Celsius climate change, and thirteen amazing weeks of skiing. It felt even stranger after landing in Calgary airport about 60 odd hours later to find a bunch of Brits complaining about the 9-hour flight!
Arriving two weeks earlier was most likely one of the best decisions I could have made in relation to the course – not only did my 5 other house mates become almost family, the town officially became home and the mountain became THE place to be (apart from the hot tub after a long day of skiing and drinking).

When week one finally came around, there had been antics like you wouldn’t believe – house parties with drunken kickers being jumped and massive food fights, water skiing (when the snow began to turn to rain), days of unparalleled beauty skiing above the clouds, and nights of hilarity and just good times.
By the time the rest of the skiers arrived, everyone became a bit anxious about the lessons finally starting and the good times ending. Well, we were most certainly wrong on that count. Ice hockey matches with people screaming for blood (and then watching it get scraped off the ice), snow like I’ve never seen in the southern hemisphere while the locals were calling it one of their more “average” seasons… The list goes on!
What I can say with certainty though, and with a huge amount of emphasis – the best is yet to come!
