Red Mountain 11 – Week Ski and Snowboard Instructor Course – Week 1 & 2
Week 1 & 2 – By Francisco Camacho
Upon our arrival in Kelowna from all different corners of the world, everyone seemed very relieved to have finally made it.
Watching everyone greet each other as if we were all old time friends, the tension was lifted and excitement started to spread. The Nonstop staff also did a great job of welcoming everyone, making sure everyone had arrived as well as their bags. They gave us a quick brief on what lay in store, and we were off. The bus crept out of the airport and accelerated in to the night, the starry sky shining bright behind the rocky mountain tops. Anxious to unpack and unwind, conversations started up as to why we were here and what we were looking forward to. Not a moment to soon, we were dropped at our accommadations for the next 11 weeks to meet our roomates and get some sleep.
After familiarizing ourselves with the town, the mountain, and our schedules, the second week was the real start of the program. Our instructors informed us of things to come and after a quick intro, took us out for what we had all been waiting for: a day on the slopes. The mountain was even better than I expected, with plenty of trees, cliff drops and powder to satisfy even the most adrenaline fueled junkies. Mountains could be seen for miles from way up on the motherlode chairlift, and thats when things were really put in to perspective. Then a smile came across my face as I realized that I was in Canada for the whole season.
